Group Therapy
Groups provide an invaluable relational setting where you can safely explore your particular struggles and practice learned skills with others who share your desire for growth and change. Participants in these groups are of similar age or life stage. We offer two types of groups – topic-specific and process. Topic-specific groups are focused solely on a particular issue, such as anger management or financial conflict in relationships, and run for a specified length of time. Because these groups run for a specified length of time, they may not always allow for newly enrolled participants to join.
Process group is simply a clinical term for general group therapy. Participants in these groups are also of similar age or life stage and they determine the topics for each session based on their needs at the moment and therefore cover a wide range issues. For many people, joining one of our teen, adult, or couples process groups is an excellent way to experience the benefits of group therapy and have a voice in the specific topics we discuss. Contrary to topic-specific groups, anyone interested can start right away and it is ongoing.
Group therapy costs between $60 – $90 per session and last 1.5 to 2 + hours depending on the participants’ age. Below is a list of our topic-specific groups. If you are ready to enroll, please contact our office to learn more about currently available groups.

Individual Services
Individual, Couples, & Family Therapy
We know that group is not a perfect fit for every client or situation so we offer a range of individual services to meet the needs of our clients. Our therapists work one-on-one with couples, teens, and individual adults who want to address a myriad of issues.
Therapy services are available for anyone age 5 and up. Our specially trained therapists have years of expertise working with individuals to address a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, and trauma. However, at GTA we have a special passion for working with teenagers, families, and couples.
Many times, couples struggle with relationship challenges for years and wonder if their problems are “big enough” for therapy. But couples counseling is not just for when things seem hopeless… our therapists can help you resolve a disagreement, teach you new skills to improve your communication, and provide an opportunity to check-in with each other and feel more connected. Think of it as relationship maintenance.
While group is often a great tool for many teens, having an individual therapist can be invaluable as well. Not quite adults and no longer children, teenagers have special needs when it comes to their emotional development. Our therapists understand these unique and sometimes complex needs and are ready to help your teenager with the right tools to build healthy relationships and develop a strong sense of self. We encourage you to call our office to learn more about how we can support you.
For children ages 5 – 12 we offer family therapy services. When working with younger children we ask parents to commit to being full participants in the therapy process because we know that effective change for children can only happen with the support and involvement of the whole family.
Therapy appointments are available in our Haymarket office, during day and evening hours, Monday – Saturday, and they typically last 50 – 80 minutes. You can book your appointment online or by calling us at 703-644-8041.
Wellness Coaching
You may be asking yourself what is wellness coaching and is it right for you? Simply put, coaching is a way to help people create and put into action a specific plan to achieve their goals. Of course a good therapist will also help you to achieve goals and a good coach may point out some emotional roadblocks to success but in general the primary focus of each service is different. Specifically, Wellness Coaching is short-term alternative to therapy designed to help you get on track, stay on track, or elevate your physical fitness to the next level. It will help you to identify and break through the obstacles that get in the way of you succeeding with your health and fitness goals.
Our coaches will work with you to create a customized plan and get the support and guidance you need to follow through. Wellness Coaching services are available for individuals (ages 16 and up) and couples.
In general we encourage coaching clients to commit to at least 3 hours of coaching in the first month in order to establish a plan to implement their goals. We always welcome clients to visit our office however for those interested in our Wellness Coaching service, sessions can also take place outside of our office, such as the gym or your office, or via phone and email. For more details, please visit take a look at our Wellness Coaching page.
And for those looking for a more independent approach, we offer Uniquely You, our therapist-designed self help programs. Uniquely You is completely customized, do-it-yourself coaching which allows you the benefits of our expert advice and the convenience of doing the work on your own, in your own time. You can learn more about Uniquely You by downloading its PDF.
