Mindfulness makes love better…
This week we hope that you were able to focus on increasing your mindfulness or awareness of the moments in your relationship. Whether it was in disagreement or during date night or while getting intimate… hopefully you got a glimpse of how training yourself to be more attentive to the present can increase your enjoyment and connection with each other.
There is an amazing, growing body of research that is demonstrating the effects mindfulness meditation and just generally present-moment focus on your relationship. To borrow a phrase from Dr. Marsha Lucas- you can in fact “rewire your brain for love.” The simple practice of spending a few minutes a day meditating can help train your brain in numerous ways that will make your ability to connect emotionally easier and more fulfilling. To be clear, I am not suggesting any specific religious or spiritual path when I talk about meditation here. You can be a Christian or a Muslim or practice an eclectic spiritual path and still use mindfulness in your life.
As the end of the year approaches and the holiday shopping scene gets more chaotic it may seem impossible to include meditation in your daily life. But the busier you are the more a few minutes of mindfulness can help. Below are a list of resources to help you better understand how mindfulness can help in many areas of your life and especially in your love life. Take a look and let us all know what you think. Have you tried some mindfulness meditation? If so how did go? If not, what’s stopping you from trying this exercise? I am very excited about this new branch of research because it is an inexpensive (free) tool that everyone can use to make their relationship better. So tell me, how can we make this more accessible to all couples and do you think it works?
